Off for an adventure with your little one? For new parents, this would be the first time you will be travelling with your baby. This means that you will be travelling a the little one who constantly needs your attention. It can seem daunting at first, but travelling with a baby can be enjoyable as well.

You want to make sure you have the right clothes so that your little bub is comfortable and smiling. How you dress your baby when you are travelling depends on many factors. Here are our parent-approved tips for packing baby clothes when your little bub goes exploring with you.

Research the weather

The first step of making sure your baby has the right clothes is research. Check the weather for each day that you are travelling. The clothes you pack for your baby will depend on how cold or warm it is. For colder places, you can packwinter sets. Having a stash of long sleeve shirts and jumpers, and warm pants is essential. Don’t forget to keep somejackets and coats to keep your baby warm and snug.

If you’re going to a place with warm and sunny weather, make sure to pack clothes that can keep your baby cool and protected. Summer clothing for babies should constantly protect their bodies from harmful UV radiation and keep them from overheating. Winter Rosie’s collection ofsummer sets andhandmade swimwear is a great place to start putting together adorable looks for your little one.

While we know that weather can change drastically, you can still plan ahead to make sure you pack well and that your baby has everything they need.

Dress like an onion!

The key to travelling with babies is dressing in layers. You can dress like an onion, with layers of clothing that are easy to put on and take off. When dressing in layers, make sure the clothes are fuss-free. Too many buttons and zips can be a hassle, especially during feeding and nappy changes.

Choose the layers according to the weather. The inner layers should be always soft and made from cotton. If you start with light layers, the little one can wear more if it gets cold, or remove layers as the temperature goes up.

Baby rompers make for a perfect inner layer. Rompers are one-piece outfits that can be easily slipped on and off, making them ideal for quick changes. Winter Rosie offers cute rompers for babies in various sizes. They are super comfortable for your little one to roll around and sleep in. And you can add more layers on top of rompers easily. Plus, they're super cute! Baby clothes don't get much more adorable than rompers.

The outer layers need to be warm and cosy. If it’s cold, you can add jumpers and jackets as outer layers to keep the little one warm. For warmer months, try adding ahat and accessories to keep your baby cool.

A good sample layered outfit looks like this:

  • Romper/onesie - works as a t-shirt or undershirt, but can also be worn alone if it's hot outside
  • Bottoms: pants, skirts or shorts
  • Jumpers, jackets and coats for colder weather
  • Socks and shoes
  • Hats and accessories

Carry extras

Travel can be unpredictable. Flights get cancelled, there are delays, and things get lost. When accidents happen, you’ll be glad you carried extras. Make sure to carry extras of whatever your baby loves. Having a few extra onesies and rompers that your little bub is familiar with will be a blessing. Your babies can be around comfortable clothing they know and it will soothe them.

Listen to your gut

You know your baby better than anyone. You know their routine, likes and dislikes. When you pack, rely on your instincts to tell you what to pack. Work with what you know, make a checklist of essentials, and double check everything that goes in the suitcase.

And finally, make sure you have fun! Travelling with a baby is a massive adjustment, but family holidays are about making memories. You can cherish the good times with your little one.
